The new Honor 8X launched in India on October 16th 2018, we all were having high expectations from Honor 8X as the last year’s Honor 7X was a huge hit. The company delivered a great smartphone under a very competitive price, as the competition in mid-range smartphone increases we expect to get firing specs under the 20k price segment.

The new Honor 8X comes with a 6.5-inch touchscreen display with the infamous notch design, paired with 4 GB RAM and 64GB internal storage which can further be expanded up to 400GB using microSD card. The phone has a 3750 mAh Li-Po battery and comes with Android 8.1 Oreo out of the box and weighs only 175g which is pretty decent for a 6.5-inch smartphone, the rear portion of the phone seems to be a reflective glass panel with dual tone design which definitely looks premium and one can argue about it to be the best-looking smartphones under the 20K price segment.

The Honor 8X comes with a 6.5-inch Full HD+ IPS LCD edge-to-edge Screen with Notch design having a resolution of 1080 x 2340 pixels and 19.5:9 aspect ratio and a pixel density of 396 ppi which means super sharp display with good colour production.

The Honor 8X is powered by the HiSilicon Kirin 710 SOC with AI Capabilities. It is an Octa-core CPU (4 x Cortex-A73 big cores operating at up to 2.2GHz along with 4 x Cortex-A53 operating at up to 1.7 GHz) fabricated with 12 nm process, paired with 4GB RAM. This smaller size means there should be a significant improvement in power consumption and performance when compared to last year’s 16 nm Kirin 659 on the Honor 7X. The GPU in Honor 8X is Mali-T830 MP2, not the best under this price segment but definitely an upgrade over the last year’s Honor 7X’s GPU.

The Honor 8X comes with Android Oreo 8.1 out of the box and is expected to get Android Pie updates. Honor 8X runs on the typical EMUI 8.2 Skin over the stock Android which is again very optimised and offers loads of different features and functionalities. It also comes with AI capabilities which means better photos with balanced HDR effect and different AI scene detection modes in the camera app and also optimises the battery and delivers faster app launch time.

The Honor 8X comes with a dual camera setup, a 20 MP primary sensor with an aperture of f/1.8 featuring PDAF and a 2 MP depth sensor camera for those beautiful portraits with blurred background. The Selfie camera of Honor 8X sports a 16 MP sensor with aperture f/2.0 which again promises to preserve great details and deliver good quality selfies.

The Honor 8X is capable of recording videos up to 1080p@30fps which is comparatively less than what other phones offers under this price segment. The option of recording 4k videos would’ve been an icing on the cake but hey it’s not a deal-breaker.

The Honor 8X launched with a price tag of Rs. 14,999 for the 4GB + 64GB variant and Rs. 16,999 for the 6GB + 64GB and Rs. 18,999 for the 6GB + 128GB variant in India on October 16th 2018. Here the Honor 8X could be seen competing with the Honor Play and Poco F1 as few variants of these phones are priced almost similar.
